Beth Thomas (K9 Handler) – Laurel, MD PD

I am writing this after action review in reference to the Advanced Detector Dog Seminar in Baltimore City, MD on April 11, 12, and 13, 2012. The site of the training was easily located and accessible. Both the classroom and outdoor training areas were sufficient. I really enjoyed the way the training was divided into a morning lecture, hands on deployment, and a daily debrief. The first day involved an evaluation process in which Jerry Bradshaw, the course instructor, observed each K9 team during narcotics scans. He provided thoughtful critiques that proved to be helpful in reference to detailing rooms and the final alert of my K9. The second day focused on troubleshooting for each individual K9 team. I found this to be extremely beneficial due to some issues I was having with my K9 partner, Gero. Jerry and his team of instructors shared one on one time with me to assist in my attempt to switch Gero to a passive alert. I found the information I received in the lecture and during the hands on portion of the training to be invaluable and extremely helpful. Jerry was thorough and articulate and gave personal attention to each attendee in the course. The practical demonstrations were very useful for K9 narcotics police work. I truly appreciate the time and effort that was put into this successful course. Thank you so much.
