Explosives Dogs Testimonial 2018

Explosives Dogs Testimonial 2018

Jerry,  I am a little late in sending this but we have been very busy. I just wanted to drop you a note that Bob and Bill have been working great. I know it probably didn’t look pretty on your end as we began with you and Samantha on Feb 5th, trust me our end looked quite different as well. It was very difficult to change from Nitro to Bob overnight. I had been on cruise control for over 10 years. I want you to know I really appreciate Tarheel selection for these dogs.  I am one if very few from around here that believes that Tarheel can pick our single purpose dogs for us better than we could. I think guys pick on size, color etc instead of really looking at what they should. I was somewhat big eyed when I saw that Bob was a Mal– it was my decision to change our contract to either breed several years ago to allow us more options to be paired with. I like many who had Shepherds just thought they were it. I have to admit Bob is quite different but for the good. I just am amazed at his drive and has such a great demeanor. I honestly could not be more pleased. These two dogs have quite a few peoples attention.  They just made the hump it seemed like overnight and boom no NPR and very accurate practically every time. He and I are working very smooth. The NTPDA cert with Gary was our first test after all the training we had been doing . When Gary told me when Bob and I walked into the vehicle lot that I had 59 cars to search I had a huge flushing go through me. I thought crap!! Bob did it without a NPR or a miss. I could not have been more proud. I believe it was then that I had made it over the hump with my trust in him. If you care to use us as an example of a couple of guys who seemed that they were not ready for two new fur missiles – please do.  I wasn’t too sure myself about the light at the end of the tunnel.  There are no excuses but I believe I had a few. I had a lot of difficulty with Nitro at home with Bob and was losing sleep dealing with it and worrying about it. I also had a family member with a serious illness .  It just seemed it was all kind of caving in. Nitro became seriously ill on day of cert, I left cert half way through to rush him to vet. I ended up being late but finished cert and then lost Nitro the next day. Needless to say I have a rush of emotions.  It’s all water under the bridge now but then it was tough. I wanted you to pass on to Samantha a big thank you .  Adrian Carrillo did a fantastic job after you all left. I saw something in Adrian when we picked him as a handler  and knew he could handle becoming our trainer and it has worked. I believe he will go far with this experience. It was an adventure to say the least but he stayed the course with us and we made it happen. It may have looked ugly in the beginning but it’s looking much different now. After the cert was completed we have nearly utilized these two every other day on average for calls. We couldnt have got them certed at a better time. April has nearly set a new call record for our unit. 23 calls for dogs that month. May is already at 8 for calls.  Tarheel dogs have been proven for our agency. Thank you again for coming to OKC to deliver these guys and your training with us.
