Robbery suspect caught, K9 used in investigation

7/2006
Tiffany and Joseph Lewis were apprehended Wednesday afternoon in connection with a Hurlock bank robbery. Suspects wanted in connection with a July 20 robbery at the National Bank of Cambridge in Hurlock were apprehended Wednesday afternoon.

K-9 used in the investigation
Detective Noland said, Shortly after the robbery occurred the additional units that were responding to the scene immediately notified our K-9 unit. Corporal Hawk and his K-9, Ben, responded. Ben was brought to the scene and immediately picked up track on the suspects scent, and this track was followed probably the same route the suspect took when she left the bank, he said. He described the route as going from the back of the bank, through some rear yards, and the track actually ended on Andrews Street. We received information that the suspect was, in fact, picked up in a vehicle on Andrews Street, which show cause as to why the dog actually lost the track on Andrews Street, he said, adding apparently the suspect got into a vehicle and was driven from the scene at that location. The suspects were seen in a gray 1983 Ford LTD with unknown Maryland registration. The vehicle had damage to the rear bumper area.

Appreciation is expressed

During the press conference, Chief Lamphere thanked each member of the Hurlock Police Department, including Ben, the K-9. He also expressed thanks to the Maryland State Police, Dorchester County Sheriff James Phillips, Cambridge Police Department, the FBI Salisbury Office, Dorchester States Attorney Michelle Barnes, Dorchester Task Force, and the concerned citizens that made the arrest warrant possible. He said Hurlock Police Officer Matt Watkins was instrumental in the investigation. Hurlock Mayor Don Bradley said, The Hurlock Police Department has done a tremendous amount of work on this last Friday afternoon. He said they were very ably assisted by a lot of help from the Sheriffs Department and by the States Attorney. Post your opinions in the Public Issues Forums at newszap.com.
